My creative journey began with illustration, evolved through animation, and expanded into design. Through animation, I have been able to explore timing, composition, and movement. It introduced me to new techniques like storyboarding and adding visual depth that have helped develop my approach to visual storytelling across other mediums I work in.
Spirit Eyes Channel Intro Video, 2023
I partnered with a client whose vision is to celebrate and share her faith and spiritual practices with others. Together, we created a collection of videos featuring narrated prayer practices as well as the client's original music. This piece is meant to create a heartfelt and inspirational connection with her audience from the very start of their relationship, and to introduce her style of practice. For this project I combined curated footage with orchestrated animations to bring her vision to life.
Desert, 2016
When I created this piece, the Adobe programs were transitioning to a collaborative cloud network which provided a wider toolset that allowed me to combine elements across platforms and create animated characters that could move on an armature form. This provided a new style of both illustration and animation for me, and took some getting used to. I created a few short videos during that time to practice with this technology and improve my narrative storytelling.
Traveler, 2016
This piece was a continued exploration of a character and world I was developing at the time. I tried to achieve various angles that the main character is seen at as a technical exercise for understanding composition and character placement. If I were to revisit this project I would focus on making the characters feel more grounded in the scene, with more natural and weighted movements.
Whoo, 2015
This stop motion project taught me a lot about composition and framing a shot. I also practiced making sound effects and music, then matching the visuals to that timing. If I were to revisit this project I would focus on improving the shot composition, making sure to better preplan the paper cut elements so that they better fit the shooting dimensions, and I would improve the timing to smooth the animation.
Bad Pug, 2015
A short YouTube channel bumper. This piece utilizes hand drawn illustration, and was an attempt to capture forward movement. If I were to revisit this piece I would focus on adding a more natural, floppy movement through the whole body, and I would alter the palette so that the scene has more definition and depth.
